Timeline 1970-present

Timeline, introduction. The history of cruising is full of important events like the founding, mergers and in some cases demise of cruise companies, the introduction of cruise ships, some of which would become known all over the world, but also unique events like the making of the television series The Love Boat, transforming the famous liner France into the first mega cruise ship Norway, building the Queen Mary 2 (she was introduced in January 2004), at the time the largest but still the longest cruise ship ever, to name but a few important milestones in the history of the cruise industry.

I have placed some of these events - that is some of them which I think are worth mentioning - in chronological order, resulting in a Timeline.

From the nineties onwards, modern cruising is covered in more detail, because this period is the most turbulent phase in the development of the cruise industry. Just think of the enormous newbuilding projects and the large number of vessels retired because of new safety rules (so called SOLAS-rules, short for Safety Of Lives At Sea) which have been implemented.
