Back to Carnival Triumph page 1 All text and photographs (unless stated otherwise) © Paul Timmerman Israeli artist Celman Shemi made several murals portraying cities like Rome, Paris, Istanbul etc. Forward of the atrium the 3-level show lounge called the Rome Lounge is situated. It features a giant chandelier high up on the ceiling (how do they ever change light bulbs?). Capacity of this lounge is 1500 and it was often filled to capacity, with many standing especially when cruise director and entertainer John Heald made an appearance. A man with a great sense of humour, the best cruise director we ever had.
Note the globes at the end of the handrails, a link to the theme of the Triumph: the world Carnival used to serve food of mediocre quality in its early years, but this is absolutely not the case anymore. Dinner served in the London and Paris dining rooms is of high quality and there is plenty to choose from. South Beach Club, the Lido restaurant situated on decks 9 (Lido) and 10 (Panorama) is large enough to seat everyone, its upper level was often half empty. Incorporated in the South Beach Club are the Hong Kong Noodle Company and the New York Deli which offer great Asian food and variety of pastrami, sandwiches etc. respectively. Furthermore the 24 hr pizzeria and the Coney Island Grille (hamburgers, hot dogs) make it hard to decide where to have to ones meal.... Suffice it to say that Weight Watchers will have some extra clients after the cruise.
Hollywood Dance Club, Promenade deck As is customary on a Carnival vessel, an indoor promenade running the entire length of the vessel makes it easy to access any of the bars and lounges. On Carnival Triumph it is called the Worlds Way, runs from the Capitol to the World Hall aft and is decorated in art nouveaux style. Along the promenade we find Club Monaco, the giant casino with 275 slot machines, roulette, craps etc. Next is the Vienna Cafe (serving coffee specialties), followed by the staggering disco the Hollywood Dance Club where flashing lights, lots of TV-monitors and special effects (lighted columns filled with water with rising bubbles) attract a lively crowd every evening. Proceeding aft, at the far end of World's Way we have become really thirsty and luckily we come across the California Wine Bar, serving wine by the glass. This bar is decorated with figures of persons playing all kinds of musical instruments and even myhtological figures drinking wine. Finally we leave the promenade and enter World Hall from where we can enter three bars and lounges: first the Big Easy Bar, a piano bar. It has real oysters embedded in the walls, coming from one of the restaurants of the famous city of New Orleans. Across the hall, on the port side we enter the Venezia Lounge, which has the atmosphere of a Venezian palazzo. At night there is music (jazz-trio), in the afternoon its karaoke time! Aft on promenade deck Club Rio is situated, a lively appointed lounge where one can dance the night away..............
A mosaic depicting a map, related to the ships' theme, the world We must not forget to mention that Carnival Triumph has an internet cafe, Childrens World to entertain youngsters (with a special program called Camp Carnival) and ample deck-space, and it is obvious that Carnival has another series (Carnival Destiny 1996, Carnival Victory 2000, Carnival Legend 2002) of winners on the high seas.
The classic Washington Library on Atlantic deck This success has led to an enlarged version of the Destiny class, namely Carnival Conquest (2002) and Glory (2003) measuring ca. 110.000 GRT and carrying 3000 passengers. Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty will follow in 2004. Costa Crociere, owned by Carnival will also receive to vessels of this series in 2003 and 2004, Costa Fortuna and Costa Magica (somewhat smaller again at 105.000 GRT, 2700 passengers). End
